Day THREE – Top Sixteen into the Knockout

Top 16 seeds through to the Playoffs in Marseille

On the final day of Pool matches in Marseille, the top-ranked seeds enjoyed a rest day while the remaining teams battled it out to see who would join them in the last 16 knockout round.

Having produced the only seeding upset so far when they beat India, 9th seeds Malaysia opened proceedings and made sure of top spot in Pool H as they beat Austria 3-0, although Nafiizwan Adnan had his work cut out to see off Aqeel Rehman in the opening encounter.

Wales, after their tough loss to Australia yesterday, took second spot in Pool D with a 3-0 win over the Czech Republic, earning them a knockout match against hosts France. Finland were taken the distance by Argentina, Jami Aijanen winning the decider to put the Finns through to a match against top seeds Egypt.

In the afternoon session Canada, Spain and Scotland all claimed their expected places in the last sixteen with comfortable wins, and they were joined by Switzerland and USA who won their evening matches to ensure that all the seeded teams made it through with just one minor change in the predicted placings.
